Tiaan Whelpton 

I'm a professional sprinter based in Christchurch, New Zealand. I've been competing in track and field for over 13 years now having started at the age of 10 in South Africa - where I was born and raised. Having obtained my Bachelor's of Science at the end of 2022, majoring in Geoscience I very recently began focusing on Track and Field full time and at the start of 2023 I decided to dedicate my life to my love of speed and pushing my own limits.

I now stand as the reigning 100m national champion, the 100m resident record holder and a New Zealand representative athlete having competed at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest where I managed to place 37th as well as the 2024 Indoor World Championships in Scotland where I placed 21st. I've also raced all over the world standing on podiums from Japan to throughout Europe and even South Africa.

My goal is to become the first New Zealander ever to run under 10s and along the way become the fastest New Zealander ever by going under 10.08s. Currently I'm only 0.06s away from that which is less time then it takes to blink! Sprinting is my life and my passion and I'm planning to keep improving and competing on the world stage for the next two Olympic cycles at least. I'm only 24, which is still young for a sprinter, and having only started to take this seriously very recently I believe my potential to still be mostly untapped!

Other than sprinting I've been working as a professional model for the better part of 4 years now - which is how I have managed to help fund my dreams thus far. I've quickly become one of the top male models in my region and have successfully modeled for multiple well known domestic and international brands.
